விவசாயம் என்பதை தொழிலாக மட்டும் பார்க்காமல் அதனை  அறமாகவும் எண்ணி அதனை உயிராக செய்து வரும் விவசாய வேளாண் குடி மேன்மக்களுக்கு என்றென்றும் என் நன்றியை சமர்பிக்கின்றேன்.

ஒரு நாட்டின் முதுகெலும்பு விவசாயம் என்பதையும் தாண்டி மனித குலத்தின் மற்றும் அனைத்து ஜீவராசிகளுக்கும் உயிர் ஆதராமாக விளங்குகின்ற உணவினை வழங்குகின்ற விவசாயத்தை கல்வியாக கற்பதை விட உணர்வாகவும் உயிராகவும் கடமையாகவும் ஒவ்வொரு வரும் கற்று பேணி காக்க  வேண்டும்.

ஒரு நாடு பொறியியல் துறையிலோ, போக்குவரத்து துறையிலோ, மருத்துவம், இராணுவம் மற்றும் பாதுகாப்பு துறையிலோ பெறுகின்ற வளர்ச்சியை காட்டிலும் வேளாண் துறையில் பெறுகின்ற வளர்ச்சியே அந்நாட்டின் முன்னேற்றம், அந்நாட்டு மக்களின் முன்னேற்றம். மனிதனாக பிறந்த அனைவருமே பணத்தை சம்பாதிக்க எத்தனை தொழில்களை தேடினாலும், உயிர்வாழ உன்னத உணவை தேட விவசாயம் ஒன்றே உள்ளது.

நாளுக்கு நாள் அதிகரித்து செல்லும் மக்கள் தொகைக்கு ஏற்ப உணவு உற்பத்தியும் அதிகரிக்க வேண்டியது மிக அவசியமாகும். இன்றைக்கு உலகமெங்கிலும் உள்ள பல நாடுகளில் உள்ள மக்கள் ஒருவேளை உணவுக்கு கூட வழியின்றி பசியால் இறக்கிறார்கள். அது மட்டுமின்றி தொழில் புரட்சியில் முன்னேற்றம் அடைந்துள்ள பல நாடுகளில் கூட பசி பிணியால் பல மக்கள் தினம் தினம் இறந்து கொண்டே தான் இருக்கின்றார்கள் என்பதுவே நிதர்சனம்.

கடுமையான காலநிலை மாற்றங்கள், பொருளாதார நெருக்கடி மற்றும் யுத்தம், உயிர் கொல்லி தொற்று நோய்கள் போன்ற இக்கட்டான கால கட்டங்களில் மட்டுமே இவ்வுலகம் உணவு மற்றும் விவசாயத்தினுடைய முக்கியத்துவத்தினை உணர்ந்து கொள்ளுகிறது. உணவு பஞ்சங்களால் பல நாடுகளின் சாம்ராஜ்ஜியங்கலும் சரிந்துகொண்டு இருப்பதை அக்காலத்திலும் இக்காலத்திலும் நாம் கண்டுகொண்டு தான் இருக்கின்றோம்.

மனித குலத்தின் அத்தியாவசியமான விவசாயத்தை கைவிடும் பட்சத்தில் எல்லோருக்கும் இதே நிலை தான் ஏற்படும். வேளாண்மையில் தன்னிறைவு பெறாத நாடும் நாட்டு மக்களும் ஒரு போதும் நம்பிக்கையான ஆரோக்கிய வாழ்வை பெற போவதில்லை. மாபெரும் தொழில் மற்றும் பொருளாதார வளர்ச்சி அடைந்த சீனா, ரஷ்யா, மெக்சிக்கோ, பிரான்ஸ் ஜப்பான் போன்ற நாடுகளும் விவசாயத்திற்கு முக்கியத்துவம் அளிக்கும் நாடுகளில் முதல் ஐந்து இடத்தில் உள்ளது.

நம் இந்திய திருநாட்டில் இயற்கை வளங்கள் ஆயிரமாயிரம் இருந்தும் வேளாண் துறையில் முழுமையான சீரிய முன்னேற்றமின்றி இன்றளவும் விவசாயம் நழிவடைந்தும், விவசாயி கடன் பட்டு புண்பட்டு ஏழையாகவே பிறந்து ஏழையாகவே சாகின்றான். தான் உண்ணவிட்டாலும் உலகத்திற்கு உணவு கொடுக்கும் விவசாயி என்றுமே விவசாயத்தை விட்டு விடுவதில்லை.

சிலபேர் மட்டுமே பயன்படுத்தும் கார், வாகனங்கள், தொலைபேசி, தொலைகாட்சி தயாரித்து விற்க்கும் நிறுவனங்கள் கோடி கோடியை சம்பாதிக்கும் பொழுது அணைத்து மக்களும் அன்றாடம் பயன்படுத்தக்கூடிய உணவை தயாரிக்கும் விவசாயம் மட்டும் எப்படி நஷ்டத்தில் இயங்கும் தொழில் என்று கூற முடியும். விவசாயம் நஷ்டத்தில் உள்ளது, விவசாயம் செய்வது மேலான தொழில் இல்லை, விவசாய பொருளிற்க்கு போதிய இலாபம் இல்லை, விவசாயம் இளைஞர்களுக்கு பொருத்தமில்லை இன்னும் இதுபோன்ற ஆயிரம் பொய்யான காரணங்கள் கூறி விவசாயம் நழிவானது என்ற பிம்பம் உருவாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.

சரியான நெறிமுறையில் நவீன தொழில்நுட்பத்தை புகுத்தி முறையான வேளாண் கல்வியை மாணவர்களுக்கு கற்பித்தும், அவர்கள் கற்றதை நடைமுறையில் முறைபடுத்தி அரசு மற்றும் பல வேளாண் துறையின் உதவியுடன் பல வல்லுனர்களின் வழிகாட்டுதலுடனும்  மாணவர்கள் வேளாண் துறையில் மிக உயரிய அறிவு மற்றும் பொருளாதார முன்னேற்றம் அடைய அயராது சென்று கொண்டு இருக்கும் இப்பயணத்தில் இணைந்து இருப்பதில் மிகவும் மகிழ்ச்சியாகவும் கெளவுரவமாகவும் கருதிகின்றேன்.

I offer my eternal gratitude to the nobles of agriculture who do not only see agriculture as a profession but consider it as a virtue and make it their life. Apart from the fact that agriculture is the backbone of a country, agriculture, which provides food which is the life support of mankind and all living beings, should be taught and maintained as a feeling, life and duty rather than education.

A country’s progress in the agricultural sector is more important than the progress in engineering, transport, medicine, military and defense. No matter how many professions all human beings seek to earn money, agriculture is the only way to find the noblest food to survive. It is very necessary to increase the production of food in line with the increasing population day by day.

Today, people in many countries around the world are dying of hunger, perhaps even without access to food. Not only that, it is a fact that even in many countries that have progressed in industrial revolution, many people are dying of hunger every day. The world realizes the importance of food and agriculture only in difficult times like severe climate changes, economic crisis and war, deadly infectious diseases.

Then and Now,we are witnessing that the empires of many countries are collapsing due to food shortages. The same situation will happen to everyone if we abandon the essential agriculture of mankind.

A country and its people who are not self-sufficient in agriculture will never have a confident and healthy life. Countries such as China, Russia, Mexico, France and Japan, which have achieved great industrial and economic development, are among the top five countries that give importance to agriculture.

Even though our country of India has thousands of natural resources, agriculture is still in decline without complete steady progress in the agricultural sector, the farmer is born poor and dies poor due to debt.

A farmer who feeds the world does not give up farming even if he eats himself. When companies that make and sell cars, vehicles, telephones and televisions used by only a few earn crores of rupees, how can it be said that agriculture, which produces food that can be used by all people on a daily basis, is a loss-making industry?

Agriculture is in loss, agriculture is not a good business, agriculture produce is not profitable enough, agriculture is not suitable for youth and thousands of other false reasons have been given to create an image that agriculture is decrepit.

I feel very happy and honored to be a part of this journey where students are tirelessly going to achieve the highest level of knowledge and economic progress in the field of agriculture by inculcating modern technology in the right manner and teaching the students proper agricultural education, systematizing what they have learned in practice and with the help of many experts from the government and many agricultural departments.
